Vintage bedrooms: wardrobes, chests of drawers, bedside tables and beds

A vintage bedroom doesn't need much: a good wardrobe, a chest of drawers, two bedside tables. At Hauptstadt Möblerei, you will always find more than 1,000 bedroom furnishings from every era: antique wardrobes made of oak and softwood, Biedermeier chests of drawers made of cherry wood, mid-century bedside tables made of teak, dressing tables with mirrors, linen chests with marble tops, full-length mirrors and beds. Furnishing a bedroom: vintage, antique or mid-century

Mid-century: Teak chest of drawers, two teak bedside tables on slender legs, sliding-door wardrobe. Calm and light. See Mid-century.

Biedermeier: Light cherry wood, clean surfaces, one wardrobe and one chest of drawers are enough. The most elegant form of an antique bedroom.

Gründerzeit: Three-door wardrobe with mirror, linen chest with marble top, bedside cabinets. For rooms with high ceilings in period buildings. See Antiques.

Will an antique wardrobe fit through my stairwell?

Almost always. Old wardrobes can be dismantled without tools into side panels, back panel, doors, base and cornice. The dimensions of the largest individual part are listed with each piece.

Frequently asked questions about vintage bedrooms

Do bedside tables and a chest of drawers have to match?

No. The same wood or era is enough; two different bedside tables often look more lively than a pair.

Do old beds have modern dimensions?

Often not; many measure 90 × 190 or 100 × 200 cm. The exact internal dimensions are listed with each bed, and slatted bases and mattresses are available in special sizes.

Does an old wardrobe have a clothes rail?

Many do; what is included is stated in the description. Retrofitting one is easy.

Do antique furnishings go with a modern upholstered bed?

A Gründerzeit bedside cabinet next to a simple upholstered bed is one of the most beautiful style contrasts in a bedroom.
