Warranty & Service

Insured delivery

Within Germany, your furniture is not delivered by an anonymous freight company but by our own drivers in our own truck – carefully packed and insured. In Berlin we carry it into your home; elsewhere in Germany we deliver to the curbside. If needed, the driver is happy to lend a hand. Deliveries to other European countries are handled by a freight company specialising in antiques, also insured.

Before delivery, we call you to arrange a 2-hour time window. Please provide your mobile number when ordering. Additional costs may apply for deliveries to islands.

Do you have a special delivery request? Feel free to contact us personally.

30-day return policy

You have a 30-day right of return: if you are not satisfied with your purchase, you can return the piece in unchanged condition within 30 days of receipt.

A short message is all it takes – on request, we will organise the return transport with our own drivers. We offset the transport costs against the refund, and you will promptly receive the remaining purchase price.

Stories

“You can see how much work went into restoring it. The armchair feels brand new, but it has retained the soul of its former self.”

Marina Gruz

I didn’t want an off-the-shelf piece of furniture, but something with a story. The armchair and the small table beside it turn an empty corner into the most beautiful spot in the apartment.

Eva-Maria Drewes

I didn’t want a plastic desk for my child. This one is 60 years old, and the chair with the green leather fits as though the two had always belonged together. The furniture will probably still be around for their children.

Mid-century sideboards: teak sideboards and credenzas from the 1950s to the 1970s

The mid-century sideboard is the piece of furniture that inspires many people to discover their love of vintage: low, long, with slender legs, sliding doors or drop-down doors, and plenty of storage space. At Hauptstadt Möblerei, you'll find a changing selection of teak sideboards, Danish credenzas and German sideboards from the 1960s and 1970s, each piece an original, restored in our Berlin workshop.

How to recognize a good mid-century sideboard

  • Wood: Teak and rosewood define the era, alongside walnut and oak. The grain is the furniture's face.
  • Shape: a low body, often with rounded edges, on tapered legs or a recessed base.
  • Details: recessed handles, sliding doors, drawers with dovetail joints, interior compartments for dishes and records.
  • Origin: Denmark was the center of the style, but German manufacturers also made excellent sideboards in the 1960s. We state what can be verified for each piece.

Sideboard, lowboard, or highboard?

The sideboard is the all-rounder for the living and dining room. Lower and longer is the lowboard, ideal beneath the TV. Taller and narrower is the highboard. Find pieces from all eras under sideboards, and more furniture from the era under mid-century.

Restored in Berlin

We check doors, runners, and drawers, reglue joints, clean, and treat the surfaces. You get a finished piece of furniture, not a project.

Frequently asked questions about mid-century sideboards

How do I care for a teak sideboard?

Wipe it with a slightly damp cloth and occasionally re-treat it with teak oil. Avoid direct sunlight and dry air from heating, and the wood will stay vibrant.

Is a vintage sideboard sturdy enough for a TV?

Generally, yes. The cabinets from the 1960s are solidly built. The width and depth are listed for each piece so you can check whether your TV will fit.

How can I tell if a sideboard is an authentic mid-century piece?

Look at the construction, old hardware, manufacturer labels or stamps on the back panel, and the even patina. For each piece, we state what can be verified.

Do you also buy furniture?

Yes. We buy vintage and antique furniture in good condition. Send us photos and a short description through our furniture buyingpage, and we'll get back to you with an offer.
